Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine practice to help maintain optimal health by facilitating the body’s natural healing processes. This is achieved by inserting fine stainless-steel needles into ‘acupuncture points’ on the body.

The Acupuncture points stimulate the central nervous system, and in turn releases chemicals into the body to stimulate and regulate the body’s natural healing abilities. Therefore it can be used for many different conditions from back pain and all musculoskeletal conditions to headaches, migraines, stress, anxiety, depression, digestive problems, insomnia and so much more.

Yoga & Pilates

Yoga is more than stretches and exercise. It is a mind-body experience, and because of that you find yourself handling stress a little easier, feeling more calm and centered and all while you work on your strength, flexibility, and balance. Classes focus on the breath while moving through the postures and each person can work at their own pace and level. It can also be a great social activity each week.

Pilates focuses on engaging and strengthening your core abdominal muscles to support the spine and helps develop your overall strength and improve your posture. The session moves slowly through each exercise with a focus on moving correctly and learning which muscles to activate and strengthen to support the spine and posture.

Classes are held at the Donald Simpson Centre in Cleveland.

Bioresonance

Bioresonance is founded on the idea that every part of our being including our organs, body systems even our thoughts emit a frequency. A bioresonance machine detects and interprets the signals of healthy and unhealthy cells.

These different signals can be normalised by the machine to allow the body’s cells to vibrate at their “natural frequency.”

FAQ

Acupuncture is an alternative medicine that originates from China. In acupuncture, thin needles are inserted at strategic locations on the body to promote nerve stimulation. This is believed to cause the release of chemicals that promotes natural healing, physical and emotional health.

Acupuncture and dry-needling share some similarities. Both aim to provide pain relief using the same type of fine needles. However, they involve very different methods which should not be confused.

Acupuncture has been used for centuries and is strictly regulated. The primary philosophy is to release and work with the flow of Qi throughout the body to bring back balance to the systems which are out of balance. Therefore it can be used for a wide range of medical conditions.

Dry-needling has been developed more recently and has a more narrow scope. It focuses upon relief of muscle tension and pain.

The initial acupuncture appointment starts with filling out a health in take form and discussion about your health history, specific ailments, and any concerns.  From there we start to understand where the imbalances in the body are and develop a suitable treatment plan in consultation with you. Each session will involve hands on treatment in the form of Acupuncture, Massage, Electro Acupuncture, Moxibustion (which is a heated herb stick held over points and very soothing) and/or Gua Sha (skin scraping, which is more pleasant than it sounds. The skin is oiled then scraped lightly with a jade stone or ceramic spoon to encourage blood flow and circulation).

Subsequent acupuncture sessions are generally focused on specific areas, and treatments may include any of the above-mentioned techniques. Typically, a session will start with a 10-15minute massage under the infrared light to access where the tension is held, followed by Acupuncture and/or any of the above treatments according to your needs and preferences.

Contemporary western research has found strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of acupuncture as an alternative to chronic pain management, to download this evidence, please click here.

Acupuncture is as safe for children as it is for anyone. Your practitioner will be sensitive to each child/individuals needs.

Ideally have a shower prior to your appointment.  This will also aid in loosening tight ligaments and muscles.  It is a good idea to eat something before a treatment.
